Year 6

Autumn 1 - 2017

Welcome back, we hope you all had a fantastic half term.

We hope you and your children have had a lovely summer break and that you are looking forward to the start of the new year. This year, the year Year Six team will consist of Mrs Martin, Mrs Chana and Miss Walters. We are very excited about all of the units of learning planned and we are sure that your children will continue to demonstrate a positive attitude towards their learning. Please remember, if you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to talk to us after school. We look forward to meeting with you all!

Unit of Learning: Growing and Changing

‘Increasing the awareness of self -development helps us make decisions that can affect our future.'

This half term our unit of learning will focus on growing and changing. We will be learning about the human body in Science, focussing on the circulatory and respiratory systems. In PSHE we will be thinking about changes that happen to use as we grow and the impact of nutrition, exercise and different substances on our bodies. Later in the term the children will be learning about how our bodies change during puberty. We will be orgainsing a meeting to discuss this further with parents.

English and Maths

This half term we will be reading the book Wonder and producing some exciting writing outcomes based on the story. In maths, we will be developing our understanding of place value and number, revising calculation strategies and applying these to a range of problems. Later in the half term we will be learning about data and applying these skills to a science investigation.

P.E

All Year6 children have two P.E lessons each week. Please ensure that your child brings their P.E kit in every Monday. Please ensure that your child has a separate T-shirt from that of their school uniform. Children should wear black shorts/tracksuit bottoms, a white t-shirt (no football shirts) and trainers/plimsols. Please ensure that they always bring their kit with as a kit is an essential part of a PE lesson.

This year, there is a very exciting opportunity for the children to visit Wales on school journey. If you require further information, please contact one of the year six team.

There will be a chance to meet with the year 6 team on Friday 15th September 2017 to find out about expectations and what the children will be learning this year. We look forward to seeing you all there,
