Year 6

Autumn 2 - 2017

We hope that you enjoyed the break and are now looking forward to what will be a fantastic half term at South Rise. If you would like to contact any of the Year 6 team, we are in the playground at the end of each day. Alternatively, you can arrange to meet us at more convenient time.

Unit of Learning: Britain at War

This term we will begin our new unit of learning based on Britain at war. The Children will have the opportunity to learn what life was like for different groups of people during these times. We will look closely at how this particular historical event has shaped the way we live today.

English and Maths

In English, we will be linking the theme of both World War 1 and World War II into our writing. We will be exploring classical war poetry and using this as an inspiration for writing our own poems. We will be writing a newspaper article from both the perspective of Britain and Germany during World War II. In maths, we will focus on solving followed by learning about area and perimeter of compound shapes.

Please encourage your child to practise the statutory spellings and timetables every day. Please encourage your child to read daily to build their reading stamina, choosing challenging books to develop their understanding and vocabulary. Please ask your child’s class teacher for a recommended book list if you haven’t already received one.

As part of our learning this half term, the children will be performing a special assembly based on world war 11. This will take place towards the end of the half term and letters will be sent nearer the time.

Thank you for your continuing support.

Mrs Martin                 Mrs Chana                Miss Walters                         Miss Phillips
